“The Freedom Fund” is proud to announce Blue Star Families of Central Virginia as the December 2019, “Friend of Freedom” award winner.
Blue Star Families of Central Virginia supports fellow Blue Star members and their friends and family members who are serving or who have served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America. According to Martha Horsfall Chapter President, their most important mission is to mail CARE packages throughout the year to our military personnel stationed abroad. Since their inception in 2003 they have shipped more than 5,500 CARE packages to service members deployed throughout the world.
Blue Star Families of Central Virginia was formed in the early spring of 2003 as a result of Operation Iraqi Freedom. A small group of five mothers gathered at a local restaurant to plan and finance our fledgling organization. They wrote personal checks to purchase items for our initial CARE package mailings. Since that time, the group has steadily grown. Their membership includes families with loved ones currently serving in the US military as well as those who have retired or separated from the military. We also have associate members who do not have a child in the military but are dedicated to serving our military and veterans.
In addition to sending CARE packages Blue Star Families participate in “Our Community Salutes” (honoring graduating high school seniors who are entering the military upon graduation), volunteer with Freedom 5K and 4 Our Freedom 5K runs, coordinate with churches, schools, and companies in the Charlottesville area to support our deployed military and much more. They consistently receive the highest accolades and sincere thanks from the organizations and events that they support.
Each month, “The Freedom Fund” Board of Directors will chose a FOF award winner to be featured on Gratitudecville.com. Winners will get a trophy and sometimes a monetary award. To nominate person or organization that promotes and protects freedom in our community, email us at gratitudecville@gmail.c
