“I wanted to host this dinner to share with our guests the incredible impact my family members that served our country have had on me as well as highlight the way many service members have and still impact our community,” explained Chef Frederick Nussbaum, the head chef at The Club at Glenmore and Gratitude’s Q4 “Friend of Freedom” award winner. On September 14th Chef hosted a “Heroes Dinner”, a dinner event that he originated and dedicated to the men and woman who have served our country—past and present—of all branches. “It’s their dedication to our country and citizens that allows all of us to have the freedom we have.”
His career as a Chef includes stints at The Greenbrier Resort, The Chatham Club in Savannah Ga , The Oglethorpe Club in Georgia, and now The Club at Glenmore. “My inspiration for the Heroes Dinner was a way to pay tribute to those who served past or present our great country. Their service to our country along with their contributions after service is what inspires me to continue to strive to give back to them and our community.” Chef Frederick served nearly 80 guests at the event in September, many of them Veterans. Food for this special affair was donated by Sam Rust Seafood, Cavalier Produce, US Foods, Sysco, and Sharondale Mushrooms.
The main inspiration to Chef was the celebration of his father and brother, George and Mike Nussbaum, as guests of honor at the dinner. George served in the Navy and is a Vietnam Veteran, and Mike was Army Infantry, having been deployed to Bosnia in 1996 also a combat field medic in 2006 with tours in Iraq, Korea and Afghanistan before returning home to NY where he is currently a paramedic. “My brother and dad’s service to this country as well as their continued support of either local Veterans and or community has been a huge influence and inspires me to try and work more with our local community and Veterans to make a difference.”
Chef and his wife Sarah have three children, Emily, Noah, and Syndey. Their daughter Emily is also a Chef and assisted in cooking the 6-course dinner. “I wanted to support Gratitude because of their mission of promoting patriotism and supporting of our local heroes. Gratitude partners and supports those who served in various ways from their “Pet Project” to birthday recognition for Veterans in local nursing homes, and by showing patriotism through flag placement, and many other programs. What they do is near and dear to me.”
